The Emirate of Dubai owns and manages a travel demand model – the DSTM. This project specified the methodology for an update and significant enhancement of the DSTM to be used for the development of transport policies and infrastructure plans for the year 2040.

As an employee of SBB, Wolfgang Scherr led the development of an agent-based model of Switzerland which covers all modes of transport. The model includes a synthetic population, an activity-based demand model, and agent-based traffic flow. The model is used today in transport planning

Travel demand models contribute to infrastructure planning with forecasts of future traffic volumes and travel time gains. This study carried out a systematic analysis on the differences between existing models and their long-term forecasts in Switzerland.

Regional Travel Forecasting Model of Philadelphia

2009-2011

DVRPC is the regional planning agency for the region of Greater Philadelphia with a population of 5.5 million. Starting in 2019, DVRPC's travel model was improved and modernized. Wolfgang Scherr contributed to this project, first as a consultant for PTV America, then as an employee of DVRPC.

Training in Transport Modeling and Traffic Simulation

Throughout 30 years of his career, Wolfgang Scherr has trained over 500 practitioners in various topics of transport modeling: macroscopic and microscopic models, trip- and activity-based models, application in the assessment of road and public-transport projects.
